Coentunnel Company accepts the 30-year challenge

On 1 July 2008, the Coentunnel Company started working on the DBFM* project of Capaciteitsuitbreiding Coentunneltracé (Capacity Extension Coentunnel Section) – a challenge of almost 30 years. At Rijkswaterstaat’s instructions, Coentunnel Company will manage the renovation of the first Coentunnel, the realisation of the second Coentunnel and the connections to the A8 and A10 motorways, including reconstruction of the Coenplein motorway junction. The consortium is also responsible for the new construction and renovation of thirty-six fly-overs and bridges. During the construction project, Coentunnel Company will be responsible for financing the project and maintenance of the complete works until 2037.

Coentunnel Company is in charge of the entire project. The design, construction and maintenance during the realisation phase was contracted to sub-contractor Coentunnel Construction v.o.f. The maintenance of the technical traffic and tunnel systems was outsourced to sub-contractor Croon Elektrotechiek B.V. The construction work will take about five years to complete.
